Governor Togiola Tulafono Signs Proclamation declaring March Colon Cancer Awareness Month
In partnership with the Governor's Office, Governor Togiola Tulafono has declared March as Colon Cancer Awareness Month. The proclamation recognizes that colon cancer is within the top 5 causes of cancer deaths on island and less than 50 percent of the national population that are recommended to receive screening (men and women over the age of 50 or at high risk) utilize it. It also focuses on the importance of education and changes to your lifestyle, such as diet, physical activity and not using tobacco products, as a way to decrease your risks of developing colon cancer.
The American Samoa Community Cancer Coalition appreciates the opportunity and the efforts of the Governor to recognize the needs to help reduce the burden of cancer in American Samoa.
